North Myrtle Beach is a smaller town about 15 miles north of Myrtle Beach proper. Those who have visited North Myrtle through the years often don't even consider going to Myrtle Beach instead.
North Myrtle Beach consists of 5 small beachfront townships. Fartherest north is Cherry Grove Beach, and home to the historic Cherry Grove Pier. Recently, the Princes, owners of the pier and the old "Holiday House Hotel" which was located beside of it, teamed up with local developers and built one of the grandest resorts in all of the Grand Strand.
Prince Resort at the Cherry Grove Pier is a fabulous high-rise resort that offers oceanfront or marsh-view condominiums, an on-site restaurant, pools, private balconies, and of course, the pier.
Coming south from Cherry Grove, you will find Ocean Drive Beach, the city's Main Street, and home to the state Dance, The Shag. Main Street, and its little turnaround named "The Horseshoe" are dotted with small nightclubs known as "shag bars", and is truly the heart of North Myrtle Beach. This is a very popular area for vacation rentals due to the shaggers coming to town several times a year and preferring to be within walking distance of their party spots.
Next up is Crescent Beach. Basically just your small residential beach, it offers a few small bars, and many condos. This is a great place to LIVE year round or spend a lovely mild winter at the beach.
Finally, the most far south of North Myrtle Beach is Windy Hill. Another more residential area, Windy Hill ends in a lovely marshland, and offers a small strip shopping center, a brand new Bi-Lo shopping center with some great restaurants, Olive Garden and Cracker Barrell next door, and most of all, Barefoot Landing...one of the most popular shopping and dining arenas in the Grand Strand. Barefoot boasts the best restaurants, including Greg Norman's Australian Grill, The Crab House, and TBonz. It has live theatre and entertainment at the Alabama Theatre and our House of Blues, and the award-winning Barefoot Golf Club sits alongside.
The Prince Resort should definitely be a consideration if you are looking to buy an oceanfront condo in North Myrtle Beach!
